Liverpool play host to
already-relegated Queens Park Rangers on Sunday – on the final day of both, the
2012/13 Premier League season and more significantly, Jamie Carragher’s
illustrious playing career.
The retirement of the reds’
legend will command most of the attention, but Brendan Rodgers will be keen to
ensure his side sustain their recent form and end the campaign on a high. With
the continued absences of senior plays like Daniel Agger, Steven Gerrard and
Luis Suarez, the club’s younger players again look in line to get an
opportunity to prove themselves. Jordan Henderson should retain his place in
central midfield, as Gerrard’s replacement, after producing a mature performance
at Fulham in Liverpool’s previous match. Elsewhere, an impressive display as a
substitute against Fulham could see Fabio Borini pushing for a starting spot.
The reds sauntered to a
three-nil win in the reverse fixture against QPR on 30th December
2012, and a similar scoreline is widely anticipated here, as Liverpool go in search
of their 16th victory of the 2012/13 Premier League and strive to shake off their record of not winning on the final day of a season since 2009.
View from the other side:
